All-women crew in Air India flight
   Mar 8, 2010: In order to commemorate the International Women's Day, Air India has flow in an all-women crew in flight IC 573 from Chennai to Colombo which took off from Chennai airport at 12.30 pm today.

Speaking before taking off, Captain M Deepa, the flight commander, said it was really heartening to find so many women have been joining the aviation sector which has a number of opportunities for the womenfolk.

She said that of late the aviation sector has a substantial number of womenfolk and Air India has been encouraging them to become crew members. Deepa said that for many woman pilots like her flying has became an inalienable part of their lives. She noted that women pilot have been flying now regularly from major cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai.

Flying officer Soniya Jain said this all-women crew would be a major boost for the empowerment of the Indian women and was a step in the right direction.
